Postdoctoral Research Position in African Archaeology at Ghent University, Belgium

Applications are invited for a one-year postdoctoral research post, renewable for 4 years, beginning January 2012 to work on a European Research Council-funded project (Political centralization, economic integration and language evolution in Central Africa: An interdisciplinary approach to the early history of the Kongo kingdom) led by Prof. Dr. Koen Bostoen at the Department of African Languages and Cultures of the UGENT.

You have a PhD in archaeology, preferably in African archaeology You have archaeological fieldwork experience in sub-Saharan Africa, preferably Central-Africa; You have published in international peer-reviewed journals, either as sole author or co-author; You have presented on international conferences; You have experience with interdisciplinary research; You have a sound knowledge of French and English, additional knowledge of Portuguese is an asset, as is competency in additional skills such as pottery analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) You are a dynamic and enthusiastic team player.
