PhD Scholarship in Solid State Electrochemistry at Risø DTU, Denmark

The Fuel Cells and Solid State Chemistry Division at Risø DTU is among the world’s research leaders in solid oxide fuel cells – a technology for clean and efficient production of electricity. In addition we have activities within a number of related topics in functional ceramics. Direct electrochemical conversion of coal to electricity offers very significant increases in efficiency with consequent reductions in CO2 emissions; furthermore, the CO2 generated can be captured and sequestered. Direct oxidation of carbon can be performed in a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell, with a molten Li2CO3 and K2CO3 anode slurry mixed with carbon next to the anode. We have recently been granted a project from the European Union which will address the key issues needed to bring the technology to a proof-of-concept state.

Master’s degree in engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree strong background in electrochemistry or solid state chemistry ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamical group good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
