PhD Position in Ultrafast Nonlinear THz Science at University of Bern, Switzerland

We are offering a fully funded PhD position in our group at the Institute of Applied Physics of the University of Bern (Switzerland) to further develop nonlinear THz experiments. As a chosen candidate, you will be completely involved in this research project with two main goals: i) You will apply these high THz fields to study phenomena such as electron transfer and their influence on the formation of charge separation states, electric or magnetic switching phenomena, or excitation of optical phonons. ii) You will explore several non-standard approaches to generate extremely high THz fields through the use of efficient THz nano-structures.

We are seeking for a motivated researcher with a strong background in physics, physical chemistry, THz technology, and ultrafast spectroscopy and a strong interest in one or more of the following fields: ultrafast lasers, nonlinear optics, femtosecond spectroscopy, and light-matter interaction. You should have an active attitude, an accurate way of working, and excellent communicative and collaborative skills. The research activity will have a strong experimental character with a clear focus on nonlinear THz science. Graduate students with a diploma or master degree in Physics, Chemistry, or closely related subject, are welcome to apply.
