Newton-Mosharafa PhD Scholarships for Egyptians in UK, 2015

The British and Egyptian government are awarding PhD scholarships and placements for Egyptian students to do part or all of their PhD at UK institutions. PhD scholarships will provide full funding (for up to four years) for students who wish to pursue their PhD research at UK universities. PhD placements will fund PhD students at Egyptian universities to spend one year at a UK university undertaking research. Funding from the British Government will cover tuition fees at UK universities. Funding from the Egyptian Government will cover travel and living expenses, including flights (economy), accommodation allowance, living stipend, insurance and visa costs. The application deadline is 31 December, 2014.. The British Council, British Embassy and Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education are now inviting applications for PhD scholarships and placements. The research areas of this scholarship are: Research areas should focus on one of the priority areas of Newton-Mosharafa: Sustainable water management, Sustainable food production, Energy, Affordable and inclusive healthcare, Cultural heritage and archaeology.
Who can apply to this scholarship? The Programme will sponsor:
· Egyptians affiliated with public universities or research institutes to do a full three year PhD at a British Higher Education institution.
· Egyptian’s who are currently doing their PhD at an Egyptian public university or research institute to spend a year doing research at a British Higher Education institution.
Benefits of the scholarship: Collective funding for Newton-Mosharafa is £4 million a year in Egypt, with the UK contributing £2 million and the Egyptian side providing £2 million in matched funding. Funding from the British Government will cover tuition fees at UK universities. Funding from the Egyptian Government will cover travel and living expenses, including flights (economy), accommodation allowance, living stipend, insurance and visa costs.

Duration: Scholarship will be awarded for up to four years.
Number of scholarships: The Newton-Mosharafa Fund will grant roughly 30 full scholarships and roughly 30 one year placements in this first year.
