G3S Start-up Scholarships at University of Basel in Switzerland, 2015

University of Basel is inviting applications for start-up scholarships within the Graduate School of Social Sciences (G3S). The scholarships are directed to students holding a Master’s degree or a “Licence/Lizentiat” in one of the G3S fields. The scholarships are meant to support graduates in the early stages of their PhD. The start-up grants will be transferred to successful candidates in two installments of CHF 12’500 each, one in April 2015 and the second one in October 2015 after evaluation of the candidates’ activities during the first six months. The application deadline is November 15th, 2014.. University of Basel is advertising five start-up grants (25’000 CHF / 12 months each) for the next academic year, beginning in February 2015. The scholarships are meant to support graduates in the early stages of their PhD, during which they will develop research proposals for submission to a funding body such as the Swiss National Science Foundation.. Scholarships are available to carry out an independent research project.

Who can apply to this scholarship? The scholarships are directed at students holding a Master’s degree or a “Licence/Lizentiat” in one of the G3S fields. Doctoral students in the G3S should have a background in a discipline of the Department of Social Science (e.g. anthropology, cultural anthropology, educational sciences, middle eastern studies, political science and sociology). They may likewise be trained in interdisciplinary fields also represented at G3S: Centre for African Studies, PhD Program Gender Studies, MUBIT: Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, PhD Program Science of Religion, International Graduate School North
· South, Sustainability Research and PhD Programs Cultural Anthropology.
Benefits of the scholarship: Scholarships worth 25’000 CHF / 12 months each will be awarded.
