EPSRC PhD Studentship in Microbial Fuel Cells at Newcastle University, UK 2012

This PhD will cover: • Elucidation of mechanism(s) of electron transfer in naturally colonized anode biofilms. • Determining the mechanisms of microbial community assembly in anode biofilms. • Integrated microbial ecology and electrochemistry for optimized MFC anode engineering design. • Development and understanding of biocathodes. • Microbial electrochemical sensors.

Applications are invited from graduates with an upper-second-class or first-class Honours degree and/or MSc degree in science or engineering. Depending on how you meet the EPSRC’s eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a full or a partial award. A full award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and an annual stipend of £13,590 (2011/12). A partial award covers fees at the UK/EU rate only.
