Doctoral Researcher Position at JSMC Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany, 2013

The Graduate School of Excellence ‘JSMC’ invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher Position to conduct research on the project Host and symbiont contributions towards parasite resistance in cotton stainer bugs. Duration of PhD research position is of three years. Applicants must have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural Sciences (molecular ecology, microbiology, evolutionary biology, or entomology). Applicants must have very good English communication skills. Application deadline is 20th October 2013.. Symbiotic microbes play important roles in nutrition and reproduction of multicellular organisms, but their role in the defense against parasites is less well understood. By combining targeted manipulation of a pest insect’s symbiotic and parasitic microbiota with fitness assays, high-throughput transcriptome sequencing, and knock-down of target genes by RNAi, we aim to elucidate the molecular basis of the multipartite interactions between an insect, its symbionts and parasites. Friedrich Schiller University Jena is an equal opportunity employer.. This position is for pursuing PhD research level at JSMC Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany.
